FUR Shapes up Fur shapes up as the new winter warmer
22.07.2005
Roselle's of Tauranga manager Donna Agnew is one who thinks so, saying that in recent weeks fur clothing had been virtually running out the doors with female shoppers snapping up this season's must have.
"It's really hot this season and people are loving it."
Garments vary from real and fake fur - or faux fur as they like to say in the industry - to animal prints.
And that leads to another decision - to go real or fake?
Mrs Agnew says that despite its popularity, some women are still a little wary about buying the real thing, preferring to spend their hard-earned cash on faux fur pieces.
"Maybe people are a little afraid about buying real fur," she said, noting that animal rights activists have targeted fur wearers in America.
Wallis clothing store owner Anna Mountford agreed, saying a huge number of people were snapping up the garments.
Women were also given the option of buying "eco-friendly" furs, she said.
"Possum scarves are really popular - people like fur and the fact it's come from a pest."
But one fashion follower was recently criticised after stepping out in a faux fur vest.
Rebecca Cawston was approached by a "disgusted" woman who was unhappy with her fake fur rabbit vest.
Miss Cawston, a Bay News reporter, said the woman, who had earlier given her "dirty looks", even went as far as to ensure the garment was not made of real fur.
While the vest was not the real thing, Miss Cawston did not see it as a problem even if it had been.
"Rabbits are a pest - I don't have a problem with clothes being made out of fur," she said.
"I'd love to have real thing - but it's too expensive."

Some people can be so ignorant
Perhaps if these people took the time to think about , or even witness this deplorable slaughter and cruel actions that lead to the fur industry.
Perhaps they need to view some of these animals being killed by anal and / or vaginal electrocution!
Perhaps they need to watch these living beathing creatures as they suffer in traps for hours and sometimes days before finally being put out of misery by having necks broken or???
What will it take to get through to people for whatever reason feel that fur is fashionable?

OMG seriously want to go slap some of those people. Can't believe they can be so selfish and ignorant.
Eco-friendly furs, WTF!
Never heard that before (good think too, at least for my blood pressue) what freaking diffrence does it make whether an animal is a 'pest' or not. They all suffer to the same degree.
Oh and rabbits are not pests!
Wonder if, were they actually to spend time with these animals, they would be so keen to use such a term, or even bring themselves to look at a rabbit fur coat.

Fur shapes up Is it worth it to these people to look good, when there are so many alternatives to choose from. I do not think these people even viewing what goes on on video would make them change their mind. Perhaps they should be made to actually view this in person to see the horrors that go on. They should also be aware that those cute little stuffed animals you buy can also be made from kittens and puppies. This has got to stop. There is no reason on this earth to wear fur, except for their own selfish vanity.
