"Horse Tripping" still legal in Arizona?
News story in Phoenix

I've never heard of "horse Tripping" until I saw this report:

azfamily.com/news/homepagetopstory/stories/phoenix-local-news-111208-horse-tripping.1a8da247b.html

Has anyone ever heard about this? Is this a popular underground event?

never heard of it, but it's not so different from roping a calf. One of the commenters is really articulate; sometimes it helps to read when others get disgusted by the same article.

The page seems to be gone already. Isn't that what they used to do in western movies to make horses fall down? They'd put a cable across a path to trip the horse. Many of them would end up with broken legs and have to be put down.

SHARK campaigns against horse tripping, and got the practice banned in Illinois.
