not sure if this is the right board.. but anyways

I came across a problem earlier today when I was outside and a wasp flew by my ear. naturally, I was startled and screeched a little. I discovered its nearby nest was being disturbed because my parents are getting their deck redone. the wasp (maybe it was a bee?)'s nest was covered in the little critters and my dad immediately went to get Raid or whatever that nasty stuff is. although I am vegan and do not like to see any animal suffer or die, at first I felt very little compunction. my dad reassured me, telling me that I could've gotten stung. at first this seemed reasonable, but I don't think they should be killed for doing what is natural- protecting their hive/queen/etc. I ended up going inside because I didn't want to see it happen.

thoughts?
what do you do about bees, wasps, other ~pests~? (I don't like that term but right now I can't think of anything else)

Maybe it would be a good idea to contact soome bee-keeper and get some advice on relocating the hive, if that is possible. Raid is really a cruel option.

I wish I would've thought of that. unfortunately, my dad obliterated the hive/nest Sad
I'll definitely think of that next time though. thanks for the tip!

also, today while I was sitting at my laptop, I noticed a bunch of ants running around on my screen and general desk area. not a huge amount of them, but enough that they were crawling pretty much everywhere. I don't know what to do D: they kind of annoy me and I would really like them to be gone, but I don't want to kill them because they aren't doing anything wrong, just doing what ants do. does anyone know of any humane ways to solve this problem?

I recently had ants. My method was to observe their movement, see where they were comming from. They usually have big colonies, and each individual ant should make his way back to the colony at some point. By observing them I found out that they were comming through a hole by my front door. I closed the hole and now they are gone.
