Save animals which are killed for dissection

Frogs of the world rejoice, there is an iPad app which can potentially save them from a morbid extinction and also give the high schoolers an option to learn about the frog’s anatomy in an easier, non –messy fashion.

Millions of frogs, cats, pigs, and other animals suffer and are killed for dissection even though modern non-animal teaching methods for biology have repeatedly proved to be superior.

Frog dissection app on iPad from Emantras inc. is the interesting and an easy way to learn about dissection without the chemical smell of the formaldehyde, the queasiness in your stomach and fumbling around with the tools.

It will provide your biology students an effective way to practice dissection virtually and learn in a medium which is gaining popularity.

We received the Mark Twain Ethical Science Award from PETA (People for ethical Treatment of Animals) for developing this immersive touch-enabled virtual Frog Dissection iPad application, Ref: ( http://www.peta.org/mc/NewsItem.asp?id=14890 )

This sneak peek will show you what the app is all about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSGukqXfrkY

I love the part about using a virtual model, in lieu of actual dissection. But I have to say that I'm bothered by how the user is supposed to pin the frog down and make the incisions, etc. It's still valorizing the idea of dissection.

It would be kind of like getting kids out of gang warfare by giving them video games that model gang warfare. Unsettling. But far superior to continuing the actual violence.

I hope a lot of teaching institutions start using it. We need more modern techniques in this, the 21st Century, not the old 19th Century methods still in existence.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I have an iPad, and this seems like a great app to have.

Unfortunately, though, even simulated dissection is still kind of unsettling. I'd rather not see a frog cut open, even if it's fake.

Anyways, I searched for it on the App Store and was both surprised and happy to see that it was only $5.00. It's good for cheap animal-lovers, like me. xD
